Joint Statement: Proposal for a Directive on Representative actions

The European Commission published its proposals for the “New Deal for Consumers” on 11th April 2018. The New Deal includes a Proposal for a Directive on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers and repealing Directive 2009/22/EC and a Proposal to amend Council Directive on unfair terms in consumer contracts, Directive on consumer protection in the indication of the prices of products offered to consumers, Directive concerning unfair business-to-consumer commercial practices and Directive on consumer rights.

Bitkom supports fair and balanced civil justice systems with effective enforcement of consumers’ rights. Nevertheless, we, as various other associations, have genuine concerns over the European Commission’s Proposal for a Directive on Representative Actions included in the Package “A New Deal for Consumers” and would like to voice these concerns in this joint statement.
