Open source software has become an integral part of the digital economy. Due to the way it is licensed, it is open source and can be distributed free of charge. It represents a significant factor for the digital transformation on both a technical and social level.
The possible uses and effects of open source for companies and public administration are being discussed in business, society and politics. Studies and surveys help to provide a framework for these debates and to make the necessary strategic decisions on a reliable information basis.
With the Open Source Monitor 2021, a representative company survey was conducted by Bitkom Research. We have thus achieved the following goals:
Continuation of the study "Open Source Monitor 2019" and creation of a time series.
Conducting a representative company survey with more than 1,000 companies surveyed
Evaluations differentiated by company size and selected industries
Meaningful results on prerequisites and status quo as well as the perspective of open source in Germany
Comparison with the results of the Open Source Monitor 2019
Professional study conception and implementation by Bitkom Research
